Crescent King Makes His Case for a Stakes Test
A powerful Warwick Farm finish has Peter Snowden looking toward the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes for his progressive colt.
Crescent King had to do it the hard way at Warwick Farm. Carrying 60 kilograms and chasing a strong tempo, the three-year-old settled around ten lengths off the lead before Zac Lloyd asked him to close the gap.
He was still six lengths from front-runner Fovea at the 300-metre mark, then gathered the leader and drew away to win by two and a half lengths. Moscow Maid finished another length and a quarter back in third.
The victory made it two wins from two starts this campaign, following a strong Super Maiden performance at Canterbury. Trainer Peter Snowden believes the colt has moved beyond midweek grade and is considering the Listed Brian Crowley Stakes over 1200 metres at Randwick on 24 October.
Lloyd expects the Written Tycoon colt to improve as he stretches beyond 1100 metres. For now, the important part is clear: Crescent King is relaxing, learning and finishing his races like a horse ready for more.
